What is ‘post forge’ heat treatment?

2023-09-02

Heat treatment is a process that involves heating a metal/alloy at a specific rate, keeping it at a specific temperature for a specific period of time, and then cooling it at a specific rate. It is to obtain the desired microstructure and achieve certain physical or mechanical properties.

The heat treatment of Maple can also be used to remove any internal stresses due to the forging process.

Generally, this process involves heating the metal without letting it reach the melting or melting stage, and then cooling the metal in a controlled manner to select the desired mechanical properties. This process is used to make metals stronger or more malleable, more resistant to wear or more ductile. It is designed to change the mechanical properties of forgings to achieve better working performance. We call this a "post-forging" heat treatment because it is often better than not directly completing our forging operation after.

Our heat treatment processes include quenching, tempering, normalizing, and full and subcritical annealing. The type of heat treatment performed is determined by the end-use application of the project. Maple is proud to have in-house heat treatment facilities, which include:

gas stoves with a maximum capacity of 800kg each. These are calibrated for AMS2750E and API6A in the following ranges:Furnace 1 - up to 860 ° C - for hardening, normalizing and annealingFurnace 2 - up to 720 ° C - for tempering, stress relief/subcritical annealing

Each of these furnaces has 9 calibrated thermocouples. All controllers and recorders of the furnace are calibrated to UKAS standards. This allows us to generate accurate furnace time/temperature charts via the "review" software.

For two decades, Maple machinery's skilled employees have been producing high quality forgings, building Maple's reputation as a market leader and working with a global network of customers. From our factory in Ningbo, China, we offer a complete service including design, mold and tool manufacturing, forging, machining and heat treatment, please contact us immediately for any enquiries.
